This course is designed to introduce learners to the world of sport and leisure. The vocational aspects of this programme allow learners to acquire a deeper understanding of their chosen specialism and progression onto one of our Level 2 programmes. The BTEC Level 1 course is a suitable option for anyone who has not yet achieved any formal qualifications.

  • Profiling Sports Performance
  • Practical Sports Performance


  • Leading Sports Activities
  • Running a Sports Event

Sessions will be a mixture of theory and practical lessons and wherever possible underpinning theory will also be demonstrated in a practical context. Assessment combines observed practical assessments, written reports, case studies, presentations and work booklets.

You will also have opportunities to gain further qualifications, which complement your course including the Fundamental Movements Course and the FA Level 1.


As part of the course, learners will be involved in a number of exciting external visits which include an overnight residential, trip outdoor adventurous activities, Anfield stadium tour and Liverpool FC Academy. It is the college philosophy that learners should be exposed to specialists from the Sport and Active Leisure industry on a regular basis, as a result guest speakers are often present in class to enhance the learning experience.


Four GCSEs at grade D or above, one being in English or Maths, or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma (or equivalent) at pass level.


On completion, you may choose to work in a variety of sports environments and industries or progress on to the BTEC level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport.
