As part of the course, learners will be involved in a number of exciting external visits which include Liverpool John Moores University sports science labs, Anfield stadium, Liverpool FC Academy and St George's Park. It is the college philosophy that learners should be exposed to specialists from the Sport and Active Leisure industry on a regular basis, as a result guest speakers are often present in class to enhance the learning experience.

4 grades A* - C at GCSE plus English minimum grade C and Maths minimum grade D or equivalent qualifications (a Merit or higher at BTEC Level 2 is accepted as part of the 4 A* - C GCSEs).

All learners on the course will be challenged to progress to Year 2 of the programme where learners can top-up to the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport, which is the equivalent of three A-Levels.

Grades achieved at the end of the course can be converted to UCAS points for university. A PP grade is equivalent to 60 UCAS points, A MM grade is equal to 120 UCAS points, A DD grade is equal to 180 UCAS points and a D*D* is equal to 210 UCAS points.
