This stimulating and challenging vocational course is for students who intend to study for a degree or follow a career in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry. This course can be taken as an equivalent to three A-Level subjects over a 2 year period.

  • Rules, Regulations and Officiating
  • Exercise, Health and Lifestyle


  • Talent ID and Development
  • Leadership in Sport
  • Analysis of Sports Performance

Sessions will be a mixture of theory and practical lessons and wherever possible underpinning theory will also be demonstrated in a practical context. Assessment combines observed practical assessments, written reports, presentations, discussions, case studies, and work booklets.


As part of the course, learners will be involved in a number of exciting external visits which include Liverpool John Moores University sports science labs, Anfield stadium and Liverpool FC Academy. It is the college philosophy that learners should be exposed to specialists from the Sport and Active Leisure industry on a regular basis, as a result guest speakers are often present in class to enhance the learning experience.


4 GCSE Grade C or above, which must include English Language. Successful completion of the BTEC National 90 Credit Diploma in Year 1 of study, achieving an MM grade or higher.


Many of our BTEC Sport Extended Diploma Students go on to university to study a range of Sport related courses such as; Sport Science, Sport Therapy, Sports Nutrition, Sport Psychology, Sport Studies, Sports Leadership, Teaching qualifications and many more Learners can progress to a Foundation Degree programme or a Full Honours Degree programme or into employment.


Grades achieved at the end of the course can be converted to UCAS points for university. A PPP grade is equivalent to 120 UCAS points, A MMM grade is equal to 240 UCAS points, A DDD grade is equal to 360 UCAS points and a D*D*D* is equal to 420 UCAS points.
